Customers are shifting towards the single-sim phenomenon as a result of rising tarrif, which is causing a drop in the number of active connections. In addition to this additional factors contributing to the slow growth include the slow adoption of smartphones, the saturation of urban teledensity at 130%, and the slow expansion of rural teledensity.

The urban teledensity has decreased by 36.6% from its 2017 peak of 165% to 128.5%, and the rural teledensity is not increasing fast enough to make up for these lost connections. Rural teledensity peaked at 58.9% in 2020 before dropping to 57.5% in March 2023.
